Keep your Subnautica 2 saves safe

You know that feeling when a crash destroys hours of progress. Or when you're about to try something risky and wish you'd made a backup. NotAlterra is a small tool that quietly solves that, no frills, no accounts, no network access.

It lives in your terminal, finds your save folder automatically, and lets you back up, restore, and inspect save files with a few keystrokes. Built because I wanted the same peace of mind I have for my code repos, but for my Subnautica 2 worlds.

v0.4.3 - Cross-platform, Offline, Open Source

What it does

  • Backup & restore: full backups with pre-restore safety snapshots. Archive format, integrity verified.
  • Save inspection: peek inside .sav files, slot name, playtime, game mode, build number, branch.
  • Audit trail: every action logged with a timestamp. You'll always know what happened and when.

What it doesn't do

  • No phoning home. No telemetry. No analytics.
  • No admin permissions needed. No installers. No dependencies.
  • Single executable, runs from any folder.

Why it exists

I lost a Subnautica 2 save once. One corrupted file, hours gone. I looked for a tool to manage backups and found nothing that was simple, offline, and cross-platform. So I built one in Rust.

It's not trying to be clever. It just works, stays out of the way, and doesn't touch the network. Your save files are yours.
